Holidays

This month, during my vacation in Spain, I wanted to update the blog. Well, I also wanted to learn some German and the book has kept the packaging intact the whole time.

Knowing the advantages of having a extended family around, I expected to be able to accomplish both. During these three weeks, twenty four-seven, a minimum of four people has fed, dressed and cuddled Daniel, which should have left mummy enough time for a book and a massage. Unfortunately there are two things I didn't consider. First, that with forty two degrees, one only feel like lying half naked on the sofa and swallow whatever crap they show in Telecinco. And second, the entertaining potential of a one year old surrendered by relatives. Cooler than anything in the theaters.

I wanted Daniel to learn some Spanish word. Maybe "perro" or "coche". But nein. For starters my family already adopted "auto". "Coche" is not anymore in our vocabulary. Even when Daniel is not around it is said "I'm going to buy Dani a red auto I saw in the Chinese shop", and then, instead of teaching him how to talk, my family found a lot more amusing to teach him how to operate an abanico, answer the intercom, unblock mummy's phone and search for people's belly button.

So Daniel only learnt to lift skirts and that when his granma is in charge it is ok to stuck teaspoons in the DVD, and I have only learnt that wine and octopus in my home town is every bit as tasty as it used to. But I have to say it has been a great holiday. If only to see my leg-injured aunt dancing and playing maracas with my son it has been worth it. Priceless.

Unrelated question of the day: What mental process lead the Spanish parents to dress their children in white? Why, still, mine is always the dirtiest in the playground?
