Isn't it great to do things together, as a family? Of course it
is! For example, we spent the last sunny day of the summer in Prague 's zoo and it was a lot of fun.
The purpose of the trip was not to have my kid playing with
penguins and flamingos, but to have my husband playing with his old buddies and
one euro beers. He has been already for some time going out only with his
German colleagues, and the night rarely finishes with exhibitionism and sexual
abuse of statues. He misses a good party.
Anyway, nothing to tell about my better half's evening out, since
he fall slept in the couch at eleven pm and that was the end of it. That's why
the day after, fresh and rested, we decided to go to the zoo.
Daniel, who is (I said it many times) a miniature of his father,
fall slept just before arriving and Martin and I faced with stoicism the
outlook of spending an afternoon watching deer while pushing an unconscious kid
in the stroller. But then... miracle! The proof that the Universe rewards good
parents that take their kids to see monkeys! A food festival just next to the
zoo! And Daniel, I insist, sound slept!
We did not lose a second. Martin grabbed two oysters, two
champagne glasses and I managed a spot at one of the tables. We made sure
Daniel was well and in the shadow and we spent all the money we had in
delicatessen after delicatessen. We enjoyed InterContinental’s selection,
scallops and steak, the green tee mousse and the salty chocolate from Lindt.
Thinking about how much such a thing would cost in Nuremberg we could not stop swallowing
seafood like a pelican. After that, since Daniel was still sleeping, we fished
in the pockets enough cash for a red fruits and iced tea cocktail, and we
digested happily in the sun until Daniel woke up.
Full and relaxed, we gave Dani a banana, come cookies, a balloon,
and we went to the zoo. Then the Universe seemed to forget about us. We had to
walk two kilometers to find an entrance, and when we finally did find it, we
were asked to store the balloon in a locker. Any parent knows how much
potential for drama is in there. But ok, miraculously we found some ten crowns
coin that managed to escape the food craze, we told Dani, look, a puppy! And
skillfully locked the balloon and fled the crime scene.
Then we visited the zoo, at least part of it, until we were
exhausted, discovered they do not accept cards in the restaurants and preparing
some dinner for Daniel became urgent, since we ran out of cookies. So we went
out of the zoo and came back only to find the key for the locker still in the
pocket.
And there it is. In the kitchen table. I was this morning sipping
a coffee and thinking what I could do with it. I thought about something
poetic, wrap it in gift paper for his 18th birthday and say "look, in a
locker in Prague
zoo we left something 16 years ago as a reminder of a beautiful family day. You
can check if it is still there". The only problem is that if, by miracle,
the balloon was still there, Daniel would see the food festival logo printed on
it and will figure out what his parents were really up to during the family day.
